Gold Medalist Emma Wiggs Gears Up for Paris Paralympics with Newly Designed Cutting-Edge Equipment

Aug 15, 2024

Following an incredible performance at Tokyo 2020 where she won the first ever Paralympic gold medal in the Women’s Va’a Single 200m (VL2), Emma Wiggs is bringing newly designed equipment to fuel her performance in the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

The National Composites Centre (NCC) and Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) collaborated to integrate strain sensors into the racing seat, providing data to enable engineers to refine Emma’s custom seat and support her in achieving her peak performance in the upcoming Paralympic Games in Paris.

Three times stiffer than its predecessor, the new seat enables a more efficient power transfer from Emma’s paddle strokes to the boat. Combined with a reduced overall mass, the new seat is designed to help power Emma and enable her to further optimise her performance in Paris.

Emma will be taking part in a selection of para canoe and kayak events from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th September at this year’s Paralympics. For more information on the full schedule, click here.
